Right Laser Cut is proud to support the Salt Monkeys racing team and Sheppard Motorcycles at the 2025 Lake Gairdner Speedweek in South Australia. As a local Adelaide business, we value community-powered motorsport and were excited to see our sponsored team perform so well. With our help as a sponsor, Team Salt Monkeys and Matt “The Postie” Sheppard tackled the harsh outback salt flats with new determination. In fact, the official Speedweek sponsor list even names Right Laser Cut among the event supporters, alongside other regional businesses. The Lake Gairdner event showcases racers of all ages and classes, from streamlined speed machines to modified postie bikes – proving that with passion (and a bit of laser-cut metalwork), even backyard builders can achieve incredible speeds.
At Speedweek 2025 the partnership paid off: our sponsored rider Matt Sheppard pushed his vintage 1976 Honda CT90 “Express Postie” to record-breaking speeds. Sheppard posted a two-run average of 77.347 mph (about 124.5 km/h) with a best run of 79.512 mph – shattering the previous Australian class record of 62.818 mph. Fellow Salt Monkey, Jon Guidra also set a new record on his stripped back Suzuki GSX750R. Jon beat the previous record of 163.368MPH with a two way average of 173.481MPH thanks to intensive tuning and sponsor support. These two new Australian land-speed records came courtesy of all the Salt Monkeys team members who all helped make the event a success. Right Laser Cut provided resources and encouragement that helped make the high-speed runs possible – and the team enthusiastically acknowledged our support.
Community is at the heart of these achievements. As The Guardian reports, most Dry Lakes racers are “dreamers and tinkerers” who modify everyday motorcycles and cars in their backyards. We love that spirit – it aligns with Right Laser Cut’s own DIY ethos. By sponsoring Salt Monkeys, we help fuel a family-friendly racing scene where local mechanics, families, and volunteers gather each year on the salt. In social media posts after Speedweek, Matt Sheppard and the team repeatedly thanked Right Laser Cut for our support (for example, Sheppard wrote “Massive thank you to Right Laser Cut for sponsoring myself and the Salt Monkeys…”). We’re proud to play a part in this grassroots motorsport community. Seeing our sponsorship translate into record-breaking success and endless enthusiasm underlines why we invest in local events: it brings people together and shows that small teams can accomplish big dreams.
